Tim Bright of Purvis, Mississippi dies in trench collapse

On March 13, 2008 38-year-old Tim Bright lost his life in a trench collapse accident. The construction accident occurred on Lois Lane in Lamar County, MS as Bright and several other workers were laboring to construct a form to pour concrete into when the walls of the trench collapsed. Bright suffered major injuries in the accident which he succumb to on March 22, 2008.

OSHA investigated the accident and found that L&A Contracting Co., the company Bright workerd for, was in violation of three OSHA standards. For the violations of not having a protected system for trench workers, failure to conduct daily safety inspections, and failure to provide employee training sessions, L&A was fined $12,700.

These fines are not the first that L&A has paid. From 1999 to 2005 the company has been cited for 18 violations and was fined $245,828.
