Six injured as crane smashes into a commuter train in Calgary

On August 28, 2008 six were injured when a crane smashed into a commuter train. The accident occurred in Calgary, Canada as a light rail train transporting 36 passengers along Crowchild Trail at approximately 10:15 AM. The crane, which was operated by Enmax, raised its boom to a position above the tracks directly in front of the train. The driver of the train attempted to stop but was unable to do so resulting in the impact.

Most passengers where thrown from their seats. Six were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non life threatening injures. The train was derailed in the accident but fortunately it did not flip over. The accident is under offical investigation by Canadian officials.
